Poultices: Onion/Garlic, Potato, Ginger, & Castor Oil

I have become addicted to listening to Barbara O'Neill. If you have not heard of her, she is a doctor from Australia that was silenced for her promotion of natural remedies. She teaches her students and patients to listen to their bodies and teaches them to give their bodies what it needs to heal. I love this!

I have suffered with gallstones for years. The problem began immediately after having my last daughter. she is 35...After listening to Barbara about using castor oil poultices on the gallbladder to dissolve gallstones, I started using castor oil poultices on my right side just below my rib cage.. I applied the poultice faithfully for about four weeks. I have not had a gallstone since. After being in pain several times a month, I have not had any gallstone pain in about two months. I can't tell you what a relief it is. Pain is so debilitating.

Barbara says, because castor oil can penetrate deeper than any other oil, castor oil can break up bumps, lumps, bone spurs, adhesions, scar tissue, congestions, tumors. it will break up any unnatural formation but will never break up bone. apply it to the liver/gallbladder area below the right rib for gallstones, on your back where your kidneys are for kidney stones. place the poultice on your abdomen for constipation or irritable bowel.

Below, I have listed 4 go-to Poultices for Home remedies from Barbara O'Neill.  She has used these remedies many times with great success.

You can use more than one. Mix them up if you are not sure which one is best.

Barbara's key "Go To"  poultice's are:

Onion/Garlic - for chest infections, inflammation in the chest and airways.

This has been used in cases of chest infection, bronchitis, and upper respiratory conditions.

Potato - to draw infection from wounds, open cuts, scratches, punctures to the skin, and for inflammation

When the wound has healed over with infection inside, the Potato poultice will 'draw' the infection out of the body. Potatoes also pull heat from from the body and work well on sprains and swelling from trauma.

Ginger - to help ease inflammatory conditions like arthritis, bursitis, inflamed injuries.

Castor Oil - a deeply penetrating drawing agent.  Has been used to promote healing, reduce inflammation, improve circulation, especially the lymphatic system, and many other internal conditions such as breaking down masses, bone spurs, moles. .

RECIPES:

Your Poultice Kit will need:

Gauze and tape or gauze bandage

Plastic wrap or cloth (I cut up a tee shirt) for wrapping

grater (like you would use for vegetables)

Castor Oil, Potato, Onion, Garlic, or Ginger (preferably organic)

Onion/Garlic Poultice

When there is chest congestion, these are used on the feet.

  • Onion can be grated, or cut into a thin slice and placed directly on both feet.

  • Put a plastic bag, or gauze, or cloth over the Onion and then put on a sock.

Go to bed for the night.

  • Garlic - DO NOT PUT DIRECTLY ON THE SKIN. I add a piece of gauze between the garlic and skin.

  • Wrap the Garlic in a piece of muslin or gauze.

  • Place on the sole of the foot and put on your sock, then your shoe.

  • You can walk around on this all day and it will slowly release the juice from the

  • Garlic.  Great one for children.

By the end of the day when you take it off there will be no juice left in the slice.

Potato Poultice

The humble Potato has been used for hundreds of years as an effective means of drawing out infection and relieving inflammation.  Depending on the infection it will usually draw it out between 1 - 3 days.

  • Wash your Potato and then grate it.

  • Place the grated Potato on the wound.

  • Cover with gauze or cloth.

  • Wrap a bandage, cloth, or plastic wrap over the area to secure the poultice to the affected area.

  • Leave in place overnight, or for 8 hours.

  • Remove and replace with new Potato if required.

Ginger Poultice

Apply in the same way as a Potato Poultice.

  • Grate enough ginger to cover the affected area. you can peel the ginger or grate it with the peel.

  • put the grated ginger on gauze or cloth, putting a thin piece of gauze between the ginger and skin..

  • Wrap a bandage over the area (plastic wrap or cloth) to secure the poultice to the affected area.

  • Leave in place overnight, or for 8 hours.

  • Remove, and replace with new Ginger if required.

Castor Oil Poultice

The Castor Oil Poultice is a powerful drawing agent plus it breaks down moles, bone spurs, breast masses, gallstones, basically anything that is not supposed to be there. there are people who swear by this amazing Oil for many ailments of the body including cancer, constipation, inflammation and much more.

You may need something like a ladies sanitary pad, gauze adhesive pad, or gauze with tape.

  • Put Castor Oil on the pad and let it seep in - you may need to leave it for 10 minutes to soak into the gauze/cloth.

  • Apply to the area you are trying to heal and wrap in place with a stretch bandage or any cloth or plastic wrap.

  • Leave on for at least 5 hours or overnight.  Replace with a new poultice the next evening. depending on how long the issue has persisted, healing can take days, weeks or even months if you have had the issue for years..

Some issues are easy to resolve. I had a mole on my shoulder. I would dab castor oil on it occasionally. I didn't even make a poultice for it. It began to dry up and flake off. it is now completely gone.

There are other herbs that can be made into poultices.  This is just a small sample of what is possible.  Let me know if you find other ones that work for you.
